Our story

Keeping the voices we don’t want to forget.

During a visitation, people share stories we had never heard. Then the day ends, and those words are gone.

I lost three of my four grandparents. Each time, at the funeral home, people came to tell us stories I had never heard: friends who had known them when they were young, cousins I grew up with and hardly ever see anymore.

Each time, I left with the same regret: I wish I had kept those stories. And those voices.

Maison Alora was born from that regret, and from a simple idea: that those words should stay. A vintage phone, placed discreetly in the room. You pick up, you talk, you hang up. Every message becomes an audio album and a booklet the family can listen to and read for the rest of their lives, in the voices of those who came.

What guides us

Three principles, at every visitation.

Discretion

The phone blends into the room. No technology to explain, no screen. Visitors pick up if they wish, just as they would sign a guestbook.

Simplicity

For staff, about one minute per family, before or after the visitation. We handle the rest: the sound, the transcription, the album and the booklet.

Respect

Nothing is sent to the family before it’s been checked. The family stays in control: they can correct a name or remove a message.

Privacy

Families’ messages, protected.
